. . . at long-form scenework. I loved the way Mandy taught us concepts of how to initiate, edit and exit a scene whilst focusing on relationships and relation based offers. Personally, the course gave me a lot of confidence to just enter the scene and then figure out what I am there for and why. My hesitancy and fear of not knowing the right thing to say or do diminished a lot by the end of the course. Her style of teaching js fun, energetic, and respectful. I’ve been in weekly classes led by Mandy since Summer 2020. She is extremely serious about comedy and improv, but more than that she’s serious about creating a safe and supportive space to play. She takes expert care of all of her students. No matter what my mood was at the start of class, I always ended class feeling energized, inspired, and often downright joyous.

For me, to get better at a particular improv skill requires tons of practice and hearing the same notes and instruction over and over before it (finally) starts to click in scenes. Mandy gets this and never shows any impatience as she gently and patiently repeats the same notes. She also has fantastic metaphors and explanations that she refers to regularly in her teaching. My class notes have become my improv bible. But, what sets her apart most for me, is teaching her students to lean into vulnerability in scenes and not panic and go for the cheap, easy, and often tired joke. I’m honored to call her my coach-friend-teacher!

I’ve been involved with theatrical improv for about 7 years now, and Mandy is, WITHOUT A DOUBT, my favorite teacher ever. I signed up to a workshop she was offering thinking I would have a pleasant experience and learn a little more than I thought I already knew. Not long into the session, I was floored by how much she knows and cares about acting and improv. That workshop turned into a series of classes that ended up fundamentally transforming the way I perform. Mandy’s instruction changed the i approach scenes, the way I view characters, the way I view and express emotions within a performance, the way i react to my scene partners, and so much more. I also had the pleasure of taking her “Meisner for Improvisers” class, and I cannot recommend it ENOUGH for actors who want to be way more PRESENT and In-The-Moment in their scenes. I’m a much stronger actor, improviser, and overall human being because of her.  She is nurturing, honest, fair, inclusive, funny, encouraging, positive, ridiculously approachable, and somebody that I consider a mentor to me.
