Improv Pedagogy Certification: Professor Training

Designed for Theatre teachers in a higher education, studio, or Theatre setting, this intensive offers comprehensive training that enables participants to bring their knowledge back to their students in practical and meaningful ways. Sessions will include both individual and group instruction, and each course member will be peer-reviewed by classmates. Participants will act as teachers and students, and will be expected to give and receive feedback.

Description and Prerequisites

I’ve devoted my whole professional life to the study and theory of teaching actors and improvisers. Here’s your chance to benefit from my training, without having to pay back all of my student loans! Whether you’re a seasoned teacher looking for some fresh strategies, someone who wants to be a more effective coach for your team, or an experienced actor/improviser who’s been wanting to break into coaching and teaching, this intensive is for you!

PREREQUSITES: Knowledge of, and experience with, intermediate to advanced longform mechanics and scenework required.

The Details

During this intensive, participants will:

Learn how to foster a working atmosphere that is productive, challenging, nurturing, and rewarding for their students.
Learn exercises and drills from the instructor and then receive real time feedback from the instructor and participants after they are tasked with leading the group through these same exercises and drills.
Receive practical training on how to give notes that encourage growth, but do not discourage risk taking.
Learn the importance of setting expectations while allowing for liberated play (the fence around the playground).
Work on their coaching and teaching skills in a supportive environment of like-minded teaching artists.
Walk away with a toolbox of skills, activities, and exercises that will engage students both in a digital format and in-person.
Earn the proprietary Mandy Butler Creative certificate in Improv Pedagogy, demonstrating your valuable expertise and professional competence.
